John Pearse is a safari planner who is just as comfortable putting together a safari in luxury lodges throughout the principal safari destinations in Southern and East Africa as he is putting a ‘safari under canvas’ together into remote areas in search of rare birds.
John Pearse has grown up in Southern Africa and has revelled in her outdoor opportunities.
One time hunter, Okavango camp owner, former pilot, John remains a passionate flyfisherman and a member of the infamous Woolly Worms a colourful group of South African flyfishermen.

One Time Private Camp Owner
He owned a private camp in the Okavango Delta of Botswana for 18 years along with some partners. Interestingly, some of the major behind the scenes discussions leading to South Africa’s remarkable renaissance took place in the camp.
Knows the terrain in the Okavango
He knows most of the top camps in the Okavango Delta and is very comfortable with navigating his way around this natural wonderland. He owned the only houseboat on the Okavango River at the time which was fully equipped to carry 6 passengers plus crew in comfort.
Keen Outdoorsman
His principal interests revolve around wildlife photography, game & bird watching, fly-fishing and golf and anything else related to these pursuits. He has an interest in property overlooking the Bazaruto archipelago where he practices his saltwater fly-fishing.
Avid Birdwatcher
In his formative years, he was a keen hunter and wing shooter running field trial Golden Retrievers. However these days he only shoots with his camera. In bird watching terms, he has a personal count of nearly 800 birds in Southern Africa which puts him in the top group of birders in the region and many more when it comes to Africa as a whole.
Always up for an adventure
He has mountain biked in Big 5 territory, he has completed the Otter trail, one of Southern Africa’s most prestigious 5 day trail adventures. Apart from his interest in birds and wildlife, he has a keen interest in the grasses, bushes and trees and their interrelationship with the various bird and wildlife that frequent a particular area.
He had his Pilot’s licence for many years used extensively to pursue his outdoor interests He enjoys fine food and fine wines and has a discerning palate for both. He is a regular golfer and has played most of the region’s top courses. He is a raconteur with many exciting and interesting tales of Africa to tell
