John Pearse has grown up in Southern Africa and has revelled in her outdoor opportunities.
One time hunter, Okavango camp owner, former pilot, John remains a passionate flyfisherman and a member of the infamous Woolly Worms a colourful group of South African flyfishermen, a birder with over 750 regional birds to his name, wildlife photographer, golfer, and safari planner, he is therefore suitably experienced to build you a dream safari. John is just as comfortable putting together a safari in luxury lodges throughout the principal safari destinations in Southern and East Africa as he is putting a ‘safari under canvas’ together into remote areas in search of rare birds.

We did a trip to Mombo and King’s Pool with John Pearse Safaris in April 2016 and had a wonderful experience with John himself leading the group. The camps and the game viewing were exceptional, but the highlight for us was the birding as John is a true expert and catered brilliantly for the birders amongst us. Everything was perfectly organized and went very smoothly and John did a very good job of catering to everyone’s needs in what was quite a diverse group of people.
In May 2015 I was fortunate enough to join a trip to Botswana to fish for tigers from the comfort of a Houseboat. The planning and organization of the trip was meticulous with every detail taken care of including a mandatory pre trip Bloody Mary. What makes John’s trips different from a travel agent is that he has personal knowledge of the venues and the facilities. More importantly he is himself an excellent fisherman, birder, photographer and wild life enthusiast. All these skills manifest in his check list designed to ensure that you not only have a comfortable trip, but also to make sure that you catch fish! If you are lucky enough to have John’s company on a trip you are guaranteed an engaging raconteur dedicated to making the trip a complete success. I plan to join John on future safaris and would urge others to enjoy the experience.
When John Pearse told me Chad was one of the world’s best birding locations I thought he had lost his marbles. We subsequently went with to Chad and experienced something quite exceptional. The quantity and variety of the birds was way beyond expectation e.g. 1000 crowned cranes, 200 pelicans, 50 saddle billed stalks, 30 fish eagles, grasshopper harriers to name but a few – all at one of many wetlands. Added to this were large herds of antelope some of which we had never seen before. A wonderful trip with great people.
